Berna-Gulnac-Joice Ranch

This is a non-working ranch right around the corner from our home. We could even bike there it's so close. My Las Madres group met here this morning for a little walk and exploration of the grounds. Located in Santa Teresa County Park, the ranch is what's left of a 10,000 acre parcel of land "granted to Jose Joaquin Bernal by the Mexican Government in 1834." Up until 1980, the Bernal family operated this cattle ranch. The buildings were closed today so we walked around and saw some chickens, some carnivorous plants, and some turtles in the Santa Teresa Spring. There are several trails leading off from here so we'll be back, when the weather is cooler.
